Applied Information, Inc. (AI), the leading provider of intelligent transportation infrastructure technology, announced today it has joined the SRT Alliance, a collaborative community of industry leaders and developers striving to achieve lower latency internet video transport.
As part of its strategy to improve the safety and mobility of pedestrians and motorists, Applied Information will utilize Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) technology to enhance streaming video quality over cellular networks.
The SRT Alliance, founded April 2017, already has more than 600 members. Its mission is to overcome the challenges of low-latency live streaming by supporting the collaborative development of SRT (Secure Reliable Transport), the fastest growing open-source streaming project. SRT is a free open-source video transport protocol and technology stack originally developed and pioneered by Haivision, which enables the delivery of high-quality and secure, low-latency video across cellular networks.
“Applied Information is pleased to join the SRT Alliance to help develop an open-source video transport protocol that addresses the main challenges faced when it comes to providing high performance, low-latency streaming in a secure and reliable way across cellular networks,” said Iain Mulligan, Vice President, Software Systems for Applied Information.
“With the SRT Alliance, Applied Information is joining an industry movement to improve the way the world streams video,” said Peter Maag, Chief Strategy Officer and Executive Vice President, Strategic Partnerships, Haivision. “We’re pleased to see the SRT protocol being actively implemented by some of the world’s biggest broadcast and enterprise streaming workflows as its adoption and industry-wide recognition continues to grow, becoming the defacto standard for low latency internet streaming.”
