U.S. Representative Rob Woodall Visits Local Innovator Improving Roadway Safety Through Technology

Observes Smartphone App developed by Applied Information that links cars, pedestrians, traffic signals and first responders

SUWANEE, Georgia–(BUSINESS WIRE)–A new smartphone application, being developed by Applied Information, Inc., that connects cars, people, traffic signals and first responders is an example of how technology can be used to reduce roadway deaths and injuries, and today, U.S. Representative Rob Woodall (R-GA-07) observed that technology first-hand.

Woodall, who serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, saw a demonstration of how the TravelSafely™ app connects motorists with the mobile world around them and provides drivers with real-time alerts to prevent collisions, red light running, interfering with emergency vehicles and speeding in school zones. The app also helps pedestrians and bicyclists avoid accidents by providing alerts to danger from approaching vehicles.

Rep. Woodall toured the Applied Information facility in Suwanee, GA and was briefed on the latest developments in connected vehicle technology. He participated in a live demonstration of the TravelSafely app while riding in an autonomous vehicle with Mr. Mulligan.

The Glance TravelSafely™ smartphone application uses cutting edge technology to make the promise of connected vehicles a reality. The app automatically senses whether you are in a car, walking or riding a bike and provides alerts accordingly. As part of a connected city deployment, the app connects with traffic signals providing light change countdowns and red light running alerts. The app also alerts drivers to the direction of approaching emergency vehicles.

Congressman Woodall represents the Seventh Congressional District of Georgia, which includes the majority of Forsyth and Gwinnett counties, and currently serves as Chairman of the Rules Subcommittee on Legislative and Budget Process, as well as serving on the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, and Budget Committee.
